Wednesdom January 9, 2007 - It Is Not Just Emily

"Owing to the use of ballad meter, the lyrics (Of "The Yellow Rose of Texas") are interchangeable with those of many other songs and poems. Popular examples are many of the poems of Emily Dickinson, the hymn Amazing Grace and The Ballad of Gilligan's Isle."

Fabiola had heard that you could sing "any" Emily Dickinson poem to the tune of the Yellow Rose of Texas. This came as no surprise to Fabiola as she happens to be tone deaf, so she can and does sing anything to the tune of anything else, and it all turns out sounding the same. In a way this is fortuitous, because Fabiola isn't any better with lyrics than she is with tunes.

For those of you who are not challenged by music and lyrics or poetry, go ahead, give it a try.
